Beware of titanium based dental implants – here’s a quote from an excellent article by Dr. Mercola:
“…given that titanium dental implants can induce metal sensitivity, inflammation, autoimmunity, and malignant tumors, while zirconia implants are metal-free but just as durable, why invite chronic metal exposure? ”
It seems that titanium CAN leach metal-ions into your system triggering autoimmune reactions, inflammation and disease, even cancer.
Also – another option to consider: zirconia over alumina based ceramic – so far, from what we’ve read, the more zirconia than alumina if at all possible, the better. We found information regarding complications caused by alumina porousity in several online articles, while none concerning zirconia.
Some ceramics have metal cores, others are 100% ceramic. The question is whether any metal could have any contact with bone for the duration of the life of the implant, intentional or otherwise. If there is contact, there could be a reaction.
The 100% ceramic implants are completely tissue-friendly, encouraging healthy and proper growth of gum tissue around the tooth. These implants are termed bio-compatible, “meaning they cause little or no allergic reactions, sensitivities to temperature, or taste adulteration.
One of the companies we found online that produces such implants is Procera. Of course, you would want to do your own research and consult with your personal dentist.
Dental implants can be a blessing. The benefits they offer can far outweigh those of root canals or dentures. Ceramic inplants may be the best of all tooth replacement options. Definitely worth a huge consideration!

I am trying to find a periodondist or oral surgeon that will place the new zirconia metal free implants. I live in Oregon and all the professionals here seem to only use titanium implants. Does anyone know someone that uses these new zirconium implants?
